In the churches garden there is also a chapel named after the first archbishop of Finland, bishop Tengström. It was built in the early 1800 by 18th century traditions. Kustö castle and Kustö manor
Lofsdal manor
Qvidja manor

During the trip we shall have coffee at the manor and lunch.

1. Kustö medieval bishops castle

The castle was built close to the beach in Piikkiö as a sanctuary to the catholic bishops in Finland. It worked as their haven all the way until the religious reformation. The castle was in use during two centuries and was one of the special buildings in the nations history. The castle was demolished in 1528 on the order of king Gustav Wasa. We’ll have a coffee break in the Kustö manor and at the same time we will visit the three different exhibitions which are on display.

2. Lofsdal manor

A privately owned home, were we will be introduced to the interior decoration and art, antiquities, farming as well as the colourful history of the manor. In Parainen there are several visible signs used for medieval navigation; the best example being the sign-fire-rocks, on which fires where lit to warn villagers of dangers closing in from the sea. High places where chosen as look-out posts. Lofsdal has most probably been one of these look-out post. Lofsdal was established during the 30-year war, when the king rewarded his soldiers with pieces of earth. The Lofsdal manor, in Gustavian style, with its 10 rooms was finished in the late 1700’s and was moved to it’s final places in 1839. In the mainbuilding is still the same antique furnishing and a wonderful collection of 18th and 19th century paintings.

3. Qvidja manorcastle

Image

Qvidja is in the village of Lemlax. Qvidja is mentioned already in the early 1400’s as an important building. One of the early proprietors was Maunu Tavast, the bishop of Turku. It is presumed that Joachim Fleming started building the grey stone castle in the 1480’s. Relatives to family of Fleming owned the castle until 1674. Two hundred years later the castle changed ownership to another family who until this day are still the owners.
